TAKING NOTE

 TAKING NOTE

STATEMENT

‘Taking Note’ is inspired by an uncomplicated material: paper. This common commodity is an essential tool to organize my days, weeks, thoughts, and feelings. I rely on notebooks filled with to do lists and morning pages to coordinate and nurture my creativity. It is not an easy endeavour to create something from nothing. Ideas require devotion and a sound framework to grow.

I design a visual lexicon of shapes and lines. These elements are the bones of the work. In sessions of creative play I digitally experiment with these symbols until they find their station within each composition. There are infinite possibilities and I apply instinct to decide what stays and what goes. The next phase is entirely intentional. I use acrylic paint and pastels to create a reproduction of the chosen outcome. The tension between the two stages is what keeps me coming back to create.

My work is continuing to change and grow as I find myself doing the same.
